Tomorrow's Engineers & Scientists Learning About STEM
FTC Team #13197
Unfortunately, we are no longer a competing team and we disbanded after the 2018-19 Rover Ruckus season because four of our members transferred schools to the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) which is a residential high school in Aurora IL. However, these members have started a new team at IMSA, TITANS 17576, which is in its second year competing during Ultimate Goal (2020-21). We will never forget our two seasons on TESLAS, and we will never forget the memories made and lessons learned on this team. Our legacy will be carried on by the TITANS, and you can check them out at titansftc.weebly.com.
In addition, we are releasing our engineering notebook as a publicly available resource for other teams to use. You can find it by visiting this link.

Last Saturday, we competed in Robot Rumble at the Central Illinois FRC regional at the Bradley Coliseum in Peoria, Illinois. We played four matches against the top teams in Illinois and had a record of 3-1. We also had a lot of fun watching the FRC and FLL matches and learning about their robots. Congratulations to Turbo Charged 14165 for winning Robot Rumble!
We had a fun time competing at the Illinois State Championship last weekend! We were the second alliance captain in the Cooper division with a record of 4-1 and we made it to the division finals along with our partners 6287 Vertigo and 7129 Roboraiders. Although we did not advance, we still learned a lot and had a lot of fun. We would like to wish good luck to all the teams that advanced to worlds!
On February 2nd, we went to our regional at Manual Academy. Although we ranked low in our robot performance, our team won the 3rd place Inspire award as well as the 1st place Connect award. We qualified for the Illinois State Championship which is February 23 at Elgin Community College and we have been meeting every day to prepare.
We are currently preparing for our third meet, which is on January 5th, at Illinois Valley Community College. We made several changes to our robot after the second meet. First of all, we made the intake wider and used servos to flip it. This allowed us to use a DC motor to power a linear slide that we attached a new bucket to for scoring minerals in the lander. We also improved our autonomous to use our phone camera to sample the gold mineral.
Popping in to check on you guys! :D
We are currently getting ready for our first (and casual) tournament of the season! We will be going two weeks from now, so we're tightening up our schedule and focusing on finishing up the robot. We have also decided to use Blockly as our programming language rather than Java. Thanks for sticking around! Stay tuned for more updates and posts! -T.E.S.L.A.S We are a FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team in Dunlap, IL. Comprised of kids from 7-12 grade; we strive to learn about STEM, time management, teamwork, and other necessary skills. Building and programming our robots are achieved by our funds and our skills. We feel the necessity to draw in students who have not been involved in the STEM fields because of the benefits from participating in real life STEM situations, and through FIRST Tech Challenge, this is possible. We split up into programming, building, and outreach groups and complete necessary goals to ensure a successful season. We are T.E.S.L.A.S.!
